Yichang, Hubei, June 21 (People's Daily) - Affected by heavy rainfall in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River and eastern Sichuan and western Hubei, the flow rate of the Yangtze River in Yichang reached 20,600 cubic meters per second at 9 a.m. on June 21, with a water level of 45.45 meters. The Yichang section of the Yangtze River has entered the main flood season. The Yichang Maritime Bureau has activated its flood prevention plan, and various patrol and rescue bases have increased patrols and day-and-night monitoring to ensure the safe passage of ships through the Three Gorges.

Since early June, the Yangtze River has experienced widespread and prolonged periods of rainy weather, particularly in Sichuan and Chongqing, where continuous rainfall has occurred. On June 20, the flow rate in Yichang reached 22,700 cubic meters per second, with a water level of 46.18 meters, the highest flow rate and water level since the start of summer this year. The Central Meteorological Station predicts that from 8 a.m. on the 21st to 8 a.m. on the 22nd, parts of Yunnan, Guizhou, Hunan, Hubei, Jiangxi, and Anhui will experience heavy to torrential rain, which will have a certain impact on navigation safety.

Currently, the Yangtze River is in the main flood season transition period, with large water level fluctuations, frequent changes in channel marking, difficult ship operations, and a high risk of anchors dragging, among other factors that are unfavorable to ship safety. The Yichang Maritime Bureau is actively working to ensure navigation safety during the flood season, launching preventive warnings and emergency response measures for geological disasters in the Three Gorges reservoir area and high-flow water conditions, and cooperating with local governments in flood prevention and emergency rescue work.

The Maritime Bureau reminds that all wharves and pontoons should promptly check the stress on their anchor cables, ships should ensure sufficient anchor chain slack when anchoring to prevent cable breakage and anchor dragging, and should prevent grounding when water levels rapidly recede. Ships transporting dangerous goods and ferries along the river should comply with the on-site management of the maritime authorities to ensure orderly entry into Sichuan and passage through the locks, guaranteeing the safe passage of ships into and out of Sichuan.
