Introduction to the Construction Project of Minsheng 130 Methanol-Diesel Dual-Fuel Gathering and Distribution Vessel

Author:

Project Name: Construction of Minsheng 130 Methanol-Diesel Dual-Fuel Combined Transport Vessel

Owner: Minsheng Shipping Co., Ltd.

Contractor: Zhijiang Jiangrui Shipping Co., Ltd.

This shipbuilding project involves a series of Minsheng 130 methanol-diesel dual-fuel combined transport vessels, totaling eight vessels, and is subject to CCS classification and inspection. The structure of these vessels (excluding the superstructure) is entirely made of CCS-AH36 high-strength steel, a material with high strength and corrosion resistance, ensuring safe operation in various harsh environments. The main dimensions of the vessel are: length 129.97 meters, breadth 16.26 meters, and depth 6.60 meters.

This batch of vessels is a multi-purpose non-dangerous goods combined transport vessel, mainly used for loading 20-foot and 40-foot standard containers (including wide-body 2550mm containers for railway transport) and dry bulk cargo. In terms of the maximum number of containers loaded, each vessel can accommodate 440 containers. The vessel type is a plumb bow, double-raked stern, stern-mounted engine, dual-fuel (oil/alcohol fuel) vessel, meaning they can flexibly use various fuels. The Minsheng 130 methanol-diesel dual-fuel combined transport vessel is an environmentally friendly vessel, using methanol as a clean energy source to effectively protect the water quality of the Yangtze River. Methanol, as a clean energy source, does not produce harmful substances such as sulfur dioxide and particulate matter during combustion, significantly reducing environmental pollution. In addition, the use of methanol fuel can also improve engine efficiency and reliability, extending the service life of the vessel. Therefore, the promotion and application of the Minsheng 130 methanol-diesel dual-fuel combined transport vessel is of great significance to protecting the water quality of the Yangtze River and promoting environmental protection.

In addition to environmental advantages, the Minsheng 130 methanol-diesel dual-fuel combined transport vessel also has other advantages. First, the price of methanol fuel is relatively low, which can reduce the operating cost of the vessel. Second, the storage and transportation of methanol fuel are relatively convenient, and it does not require special storage and transportation equipment like diesel. Finally, using methanol fuel can also reduce reliance on traditional petroleum resources and help promote diversified energy development.

In summary, the Minsheng 130 methanol-diesel dual-fuel combined transport vessel is a vessel with multiple advantages, protecting the water quality of the Yangtze River while improving the vessel's operating efficiency and reliability, reducing operating costs, and reducing reliance on traditional petroleum resources. Therefore, the promotion and application of this type of vessel will make a positive contribution to environmental protection and diversified energy development, responding to the national initiative of protecting the Yangtze River and adapting to different energy needs and market conditions. In addition, the vessel adopts a twin-engine, twin-propeller design, driven by two medium-speed marine diesel engines through gearboxes driving two fixed-pitch propellers, which can improve the vessel's propulsion efficiency and stability.

Construction of the first vessel in this project is expected to begin in March 2024, with the first vessel expected to be delivered to the owner on September 30, 2024, and the eighth vessel on December 31 of the same year. This is a carefully planned construction and delivery plan designed to ensure that all vessels are successfully completed and delivered to the owner within the scheduled time to meet Minsheng Company's transportation needs.

In addition, the designed navigation areas for these vessels are A, B, and C class navigation areas, J1 and J2 sections, and the Three Gorges Reservoir area, meaning they can safely navigate in various complex waters and climatic conditions. This design considers the safety and reliability of the vessels to ensure that they can effectively perform transportation tasks in various environments. Overall, this shipbuilding project is an innovative and forward-looking attempt aimed at providing an efficient, environmentally friendly, and safe mode of transportation.
