Yichang Maritime authorities launched emergency measures to ensure the safety of ships waiting to enter Sichuan.

Recently, a large backlog of ships waiting to enter the lock has appeared at the Yichang Port anchorage in Hubei Province. To ensure the safe and orderly operation of water transportation, the Yichang Maritime Department has taken emergency measures to address the navigation difficulties during the ship lock repairs.

Since the start of the Three Gorges South Line ship lock repairs on February 24, 2015, more than half of the repair period has passed. Due to the increased ship traffic after the New Year and the impact of the ship lock repairs, the Yichang port anchorage has been saturated since March 5. According to the Yichang Maritime Bureau's "2015 Three Gorges South Line Ship Lock Repair Period Water Safety Supervision and Management Work Plan," the Yichang Maritime Bureau immediately activated the control of upstream ships intending to pass through the lock at the Zhicheng Bridge reporting line, and added Songzi Port and Guan Zhou anchorage areas as waiting areas for upstream ships to alleviate the backlog of ships waiting to enter the lock at the Yichang port area.

According to the recent navigation notice from the Yichang Maritime Bureau, during the recent period of controlled passage, all upstream ships intending to pass through the lock are prohibited from passing through the Zhicheng Yangtze River Bridge and must choose to anchor at the Songzi Port and Guan Zhou anchorage areas. After adjustment, the upstream ship anchoring confirmation line has been moved down to Songzi Port since March 5. All relevant units must report ship lock plans to the Yichang Maritime Bureau in a timely manner according to the adjusted situation to assist the maritime department in dispatching.

To ensure the orderly passage of upstream ships through the lock, the Yichang Maritime Bureau will prioritize flood control and disaster relief, military supplies, fresh produce ships, and container express ships. Therefore, the maritime department reminds relevant ships to pay attention and listen to navigation announcements in a timely manner to make reasonable arrangements for their voyage plans.
